Is Soy really better???
Although we are not against soy or any other wax for that matter, sales seem to be suffering due to the multi-million dollar soy producers campaigns. The blatant misrepresentation of facts they've put out there are misleading consumers in manyways . So to set the record straight we're providing some facts and letting you decide what's better for you.
While we understand soy is just now gaining popularity amongst many chandlers, the fact is it's been around for quite some time. It's not as new, healthier and/or organic as it's portrayed to be, in fact it's just as organic as parafin or any other wax out there. Soy is more expensive than any other wax and retains by far less fragrance than the rest of the waxes.
Soy candles are made from only soy wax are 100% natural" - False!!! All soy wax is chemically distilled with hexane, then bleached with chlorine, deodorized with boric acid and then hydrogenated.
Most soy candles are made from blends of soy plus paraffin, palm and beeswax. Since soy wax is not regulated, producers feel they can call it "soy wax" if it contains as little as 25% soy wax. Half of the industries candle company don't even know the blend in soy wax.
Soy candles do not burn cleaner, as a matter of fact it's the manufacturers responsibility to put out a clean burning candle by the mixture used in the production. This means a good wax the right amount of perfume or fragrance oil and the correct sized wick. Any candle that soots, tunnels, burns the glass is using one or more materials inappropriately.
So the next time you hear soy is better, please ask them to read up on soy, maybe just maybe, it's not all it's been made out to be.
